Shower-manac

I've always meant to get round to starting a shower-manac, ever since my first experience of cruising back in 2006, when I discovered that the nautial almanac didn't always place much importance on showering facility information.

My first ever passage was from Portaferry to Peel on the Isle of Mann & the first question I asked on arrival was "where are the showers?", much to the amusement of the rest of the (male) crew. But my hair needed washed & come hell or high water, my hair was getting washed! It turned out that the showers were up a side street, behind a locked door with a code. Thankfully this was information which the nice harbour master was willing to part with. Phew!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not afraid of a bit of dirt, but it's also nice to be clean & since having the kids, the need for baths and laundry facilities has also increased. So I guess this will cover all of that stuff too.

So what is a shower-manac? Well, it's basically a nautical almanac with all the information removed, except the information about washing facilities. Simple.

Hopefully it will be useful to people who like to be clean, families with young kids, those with long hair & those with OCD.

I've still to work out how I'll categorise this part of the blog, so bare with me...but it's safe to say that it will initally concentrate on the west coast of Scotland & the east coast of Northern Ireland.
